DSWD Caraga extends Php126.7M to crisis-stricken for 1st semester

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga has extended a total of Php126, 798,313.9 aid for the first semester through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program to beneficiaries who had experienced various crisis situations.

AICS is one of the flagship programs of the DSWD implemented under the Crisis Intervention Section (CIS) of the Protective Services Division (PSD). It provides resource augmentation support to LGUs and other partners, especially services or assistance for individuals and families in difficult situations, including the provision of medical, burial, educational, transportation, food, and cash assistance.

The inclusion of the total amount of augmentation given to clients under AICS is categorized in the following assistance:

Medical Assistance: Php37,707,337.85;

Burial Assistance: Php7, 046,416.00;

Transportation Assistance: Php84,700.00;

Education Assistance: Php240,000.00;

Food Assistance: Php1,316,060.05; and

Cash Assistance: Php80,403,800.00.

Ramel F. Jamen, OIC Regional Director of DSWD Caraga, assures the service providers that DSWD Caraga will be taking necessary measures to address specific concerns to secure a smooth transition of the services during the devolution.

To date, there are already a total of 34,356 clients served all over the region. As the Department continues to maintain and improve its delivery of services, their preparations for the devolution of the AICS program to the Local Government Unit are also evident. Hence, for the last six (6) months the Department had already conducted several consultation dialogues, especially with its service providers to secure a smooth transaction of the delivery of services as the full implementation of the Mandanas Ruling approaches.

With this, Jessie Catherine B. Aranas, Chief of the PSD, hopes that as the nation promptly conforms with the Mandanas Ruling, the LGUs’ preparations shall be ready before this year ends. She also hopes that the LGUs will be able to deliver the kind of quality service that the Department had delivered towards the general public, if not, upgraded quality of the delivery of services.
