DSWD, DTI seals partnership to provide livelihood assistance

On December 2, 2021, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Sustainable Livelihood Program, entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga to provide livelihood assistance to low-income families whose livelihoods were severely affected during the community quarantine.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga inked a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga for a livelihood convergence project at Balanghai Hotel, Butuan City, recently.

Through the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), 412 profiled beneficiaries of the DTI-Pangkabuhayan para sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) Project will provided with the Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG). LAG is a recovery program implemented by the DSWD which offers financial assistance to low-income families whose livelihoods were affected by the imposition of the community quarantine. The grant serves as the seed capital fund of the program participants to finance their small businesses.

Set to transpire from December 2021 until December 2023, this convergence initiative project shall cover a total of 14 cities and municipalities in the region, namely: Cabadbarang City, Esperanza, La Paz, Prosperidad, Rosario, Talacogon, Surigao City. San Francisco (Anao-aon), Socorro, Carmen (Surigao del Sur), Lanuza, San Jose, Cagdianao, and Loreto (DInagat Islands).

During the signing of the memorandum, OIC-Asst. Regional Director for Administration (ARDA) Ramil Taculod said that the Agency will support this project wholeheartedly and ensure that services are immediately delivered to the people. “We pledge to relentlessly support this collaborative project and render the services needed from our end to ensure that the recipients receive the assistance they need and deserve.”

Aside from ARDA Taculod, present during the MOU signing were DTI Caraga Regional Director Gay Tidalgo, DTI OIC-Asst. Regional Director Brenda Corvera, and DSWD-SLP Regional Program Coordinator Mary Ann Manla.

The DSWD-SLP and DTI-PPG convergence initiative promote complementation between the two agencies’ livelihood seeding and entrepreneurship development program to the low-income families in the informal sector in light of their livelihood rehabilitation and economic recovery.#(Social Marketing Section/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
