More community subprojects are expected to be implemented in Mainit, Surigao del Norte province as the said municipality has qualified for community grants amounting to Php7.5 million from the Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa Program (BP2P).

Based on the BP2P guidelines, for a local government unit to avail and qualify for the community grants, a minimum of 20 families had returned to resettle or relocate permanently in their hometown.

Mainit town has 47 BP2P family beneficiaries, the highest in Caraga Region.

These families were already given transitory family support package amounting to Php1,711,500 on May 11; and are about to receive Php2,350,000 as Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG). Each family will receive Php50,000 LSG.

The said grant will benefit not only the BP2P beneficiaries but also the whole community.

Community projects to be funded under BP2P community are expected to increase access to basic services of community members and provide opportunities for them to participate in local governance.

Since BP2P is implemented by KALAHI-CIDSS, such community subprojects will be implemented using the Community-Driven Development (CDD) process.

KALAHI-CIDSS or the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services is one of the poverty alleviation programs of the government being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). KALAHI-CIDSS uses CDD as the over-all community development approach and strategy. The CDD approach ensures that development priorities are addressed in a participatory, collective, inclusive, and in demand-driven way.

Subprojects will follow the Disaster Response Operation Modality (DROM), to address the issues and needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Barangay Magpayang, the community chose Provision of Medical Supplies and Amenities for Temporary Isolation Facility as subproject.

For barangays San Francisco, Tolingon, and San Isidro they identified Provision of Collapsible Tent for Temporary Isolation Facility as their community subproject.

Information and Communication Public Audio System is the subproject identified by barangays Siana, Dayano, Quezon, Matin-ao, and San Jose for their community.

Meanwhile, barangays Cantugas, Marayag, Mabini, and Roxas had already completed their Cash-For-Work CFW subprojects.

The said CFW has benefitted 396 households in Cantugas, 96 in Marayag, 275 in Mabini, and 317 in Roxas.

CFW is a short term intervention to provide temporary employment to distressed/displaced individuals by participating in or undertaking preparedness, mitigation, relief, rehabilitation or risk reduction projects and activities in their communities or in evacuation centers.
