The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), provided livelihood grants amounting to PhP43,110,000 to 117 SLP associations in Surigao del Norte on November 7 and November 16, 2023.
The first batch of turnover took place at the Provincial Convention Center in Surigao City, and the second turnover of grants happened at the Siargao Convention Center in Dapa, Siargao Island.
Aside from the grants, each association also received their certificate of accreditations from the Field Office to attest that the groups are recognized civil society organizations.
Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers participated in both activities and shared motivational words with the program participants.
In his message in Surigao City, Governor Barbers encouraged the SLPAs to work closely together and cultivate their projects to help their respective communities by providing more employment opportunities.
After the turnover of grants and accreditations, the associations will deposit the checks they receive and use them to establish livelihood projects they proposed during the project proposal stage. DSWD-SLP and the local government units will track and monitor the associations’ activities to ensure that they get the technical assistance deemed necessary for the success of their livelihood activities.
