Another set of Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations in Surigao del Norte (mainland) received livelihood grants in the provincial-wide Check Turnover of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga through SLP on October 8, 2024, held at the Provincial Gymnasium in Surigao City.
Some 72 newly organized SLP associations (SLPA) from the different towns of the aforementioned province, including Conflict Vulnerable Areas (CVA), received checks amounting to Php 28,905,000.00 worth of grants. In addition, the said SLPAs were also awarded a Civil Society Organization (CSO) Accreditation Certificate.
Present in the activity were Surigao del Norte 2nd District Congressional Representative Robert Ace Barbers, 30th Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer Albert Batingga, provincial local government unit (LGU) key officials, and SLP personnel.
“These series of turnovers only imply the concrete commitment of DSWD in poverty alleviation. We will continue to deliver social services to the marginalized and vulnerable sector here in our region,” said DSWD FO Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Administration (ARDA) Tristan Telen.
Furthermore, he also delivered his appreciation to the agency’s partners, particularly the district and LGUs in the province.
“On behalf of DSWD Caraga, I am extending our utmost appreciation and commendation to the officials of Surigao del Norte. Your support fuels us to thrive more in providing necessary aid to our people,” he added.
The grant will be used by the SLPAs as their seed capital to fund the start-up of their livelihood projects. Other than providing capital, SLP also capacitates the members of the associations through technical skills training essential to their livelihood.
