The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga awarded centenarian Lolo Roberto Fortaleza PHP 100,000, honoring his milestone and the lifetime of contributions he has made to his community, October 31, 2024. The award was given in line with Republic Act 10868, also known as the Centenarians Act of 2016, which acknowledges the valuable lives of Filipino centenarians across the country.

DSWD Caraga expressed its gratitude for his dedication, presenting him with the award as a token of the nation’s appreciation.

The Centenarian Program offers this financial recognition to senior citizens aged 100 and above, aiming to inspire younger generations to reevaluate their lifestyles, show respect to elder family members, and prioritize their health and well-being. It also serves as a reminder to the public of the enduring contributions seniors make throughout their lives.

The Centenarians Act promotes the welfare of the elderly, emphasizing respect, care, and recognition for senior citizens who have reached such an extraordinary milestone. Through this program, DSWD hopes to inspire stronger community bonds and a culture that values health and longevity across all generations.
