A total of 460 partner beneficiaries of the Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (Project LAWA at BINHI) received their 20-day compensation of Php7,400 each in a successful payout held recently in Malimono and Mainit, Surigao del Norte.
Of the 460 beneficiaries, 310 are from Malimono and 150 are from Mainit, Surigao del Norte. Project LAWA at BINHI has empowered these communities by providing opportunities for productive work, such as maintaining water systems and cultivating nutritious crops that enhance their food supply. In return for their efforts, beneficiaries receive financial support that not only addresses their immediate needs but also creates a lasting impact as long as their crops produce bountiful harvests each time.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga in collaboration with local government units, aimed at combating hunger, alleviating poverty, and reducing the economic vulnerability of communities by addressing food insecurity and water scarcity, issues that are exacerbated by climate change and disasters.
FO Caraga, through Project LAWA at BINHI, continues its commitment to addressing key development challenges in the said areas, to create resilient communities through access to vital resources and ensure food security.
