The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), conducted a technical skills training session for SLP participants in the towns of Carmen, San Miguel, and the City of Tandag from January 27 to 30, 2024.

A total of 40 program participants from across Surigao del Sur were equipped with technical skills essential for their livelihood projects. Members of the Puyat Madasigon SLP Association (SLPA) received training in calamansi juice processing, while the Bitaugan Kadalikanan Kalipi SLPA learned abaca handicraft making. Meanwhile, the SAN Sweet Delight SLPA members from Tandag City were taught banana chip and polvoron production. The sessions were facilitated by TESDA’s skilled trainers, who delivered comprehensive lectures and guided hands-on practical exercises.

“We gained valuable knowledge throughout this training, which has broadened our expertise and strengthened our confidence in product development,” said Nenita Estrella, president of the Puyat Madasigon SLPA.
Estrella also praised the program and its personnel for organizing the initiative. “We deeply appreciate the tireless efforts to support us beyond financial aid. These skills empower us in our livelihoods, and we extend our gratitude to DSWD-SLP and TESDA for dedicating time and resources to provide such impactful training,” she added.
The SLP remains DSWD’s flagship livelihood capability-building program for poor, vulnerable, and marginalized households and communities. It aims to uplift socio-economic conditions by enabling access to resources necessary for establishing and sustaining resilient livelihoods.
