Some 13 associations from Siargao Island received livelihood projects from the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga through an island-wide check turnover on February 13, 2024, held at the Siarelco Gym, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

A total of 336 SLP participants from the towns of Dapa, General Luna, Del Carmen, San Isidro, Pilar, Sta. Monica, Burgos, and Socorro received livelihood grant amounting to 5,490,000.00 php from the said turnover.

DSWD Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Operations (ARDO) Jean Paul Parajes shared his enthusiasm with the program participants for the future change that these projects may bring to them and their communities.

“It is both fulfilling and overwhelming to see more Caraganons benefit from this program. I’m excited to see you prosper and elevate your living conditions, and I’m looking forward to hearing your beautiful, inspiring, and life-changing testimonies soon,” said ARDO Parajes.

He also extended his commendation to the key program partners and the people behind SLP, acknowledging their invaluable support and collaboration to help the program empower and uplift the lives of their participants.

“To our partners and the angels in red vests, your spirit of dedication and commitment is truly unmatched. Your selfless efforts reflect nobility, and your passion continues to inspire and uplift those you serve,” he added.

Moreover, Jack Rosillo, president of the Navafarmers SLP Association and one of the recipients, expressed his thanks to the program for the opportunity it has provided him and his fellow members. He highlighted how the support from the program has not only empowered him personally but has also opened doors for the entire association to improve their livelihoods.

“I am truly grateful to the SLP DSWD and its partners for granting us a life-changing opportunity. This opportunity not only provided us the tools to create lasting improvements but also the hope for a more comfortable and fulfilling living,” Rosillo remarked.

SLP has already conducted a series of project turnovers across the region, providing crucial support and resources to various communities, including those in the remote and hard-to-reach areas. Looking ahead, the program is focused on continuing this momentum, with plans to roll out even more project turnovers in the upcoming months.
