The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), conducted the Tagana-an Tricycle Owners and Drivers SLP Association Road Emergencies and Quick Response or T.O.D.A. R.E.S.Q. Training, held on March 28, 2025, at Pastoral Building, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte.
This specialized training aimed to equip tricycle drivers and operators with essential knowledge and practical skills to effectively respond to road emergencies, such as vehicular accidents, fire incidents, and other critical situations.
Participants were trained on first aid techniques, fire prevention measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and quick response protocols to ensure the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and fellow motorists.
“This training is a crucial step in empowering our association members with the essential skills and knowledge to respond effectively to emergencies, ensuring the safety of both themselves and the communities they serve,” remarked Airon James Monato, SLP Surigao del Norte Provincial Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (PMEO).
Furthermore, he extended his heartfelt thanks and commendation to the BFP for their unwavering support and expertise in facilitating the training.
“We thank the BFP for generously imparting their expertise during this training. Their guidance has equipped our association members with essential life-saving skills, empowering them to respond effectively to emergencies and other occasions that needs urgent response,” he added.
The inclusion of tricycle drivers in this initiative is especially significant, as they serve as vital contributors to local transportation and are often among the first to witness and respond to road emergencies. Their constant presence on the streets places them in a unique position to provide immediate assistance during accidents and other critical situations.
Additionally, the association also aims to establish a Mini Gasoline Station to provide a steady source of income for its members while addressing the fueling needs of the local community. By strategically integrating the Road Emergency and Quick Response Training, the association ensures that its members are equipped with the necessary skills to handle potential emergencies, safeguard the facility, and promote a culture of safety and preparedness. This proactive approach not only enhances the viability of the livelihood project but also reinforces the association’s commitment to delivering safe and reliable services to the community.
