The Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), and the Provincial Local Government Unit – Public Library and Research Center (PLRC-SDS), is currently conducting a Basic Digital Literacy Training for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in Surigao del Sur.
Running from March 19 to 21, 2025, the training aims to equip CBOs with fundamental digital skills to enhance their operations, access online government services, and explore livelihood opportunities.
During the sessions, participants engage in hands-on training on basic computer operations, internet usage, email communication, and online business tools to strengthen their digital competencies.
In his welcome message, Edgar Perez II, J.D., Secretary of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Surigao del Sur, emphasized the significance of digital literacy in today’s technology-driven world and its impact on livelihood opportunities, access to government services, and daily operations.
Meanwhile, DICT-SDS Provincial Officer Engr. Elizalde Ramos, Jr. highlighted the importance of digital literacy in empowering communities:
“This training is a crucial step in ensuring that our community-based organizations are not left behind in the digital age. By equipping them with essential digital skills, we are strengthening their capacity to sustain their livelihood initiatives and connect with more opportunities.”
DICT experts are facilitating discussions on Computer and Internet Essentials, Word Document Processing, Multimedia Presentation, Cybersecurity Awareness, and eGov App Awareness, as well as responsible internet usage. Additionally, the PLRC-SDS is showcasing its available learning resources to support participants beyond the training.
This initiative is part of DSWD-EPAHP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community organizations by integrating digital solutions into their operations, fostering economic resilience, and improving access to government support programs.
