Parents universally yearn for their family’s advancement, and their children’s progress is a source of immense pride and happiness. Despite life’s setbacks, Rebecca’s commitment to finishing college serves as a powerful example to her children, teaching them to chase their dreams relentlessly. Rebecca attributes the positive change in her life to being part of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, enabling her to afford nutritious food and vitamins for her family, as well as occasional fruits – a stark contrast to their previous struggles, where three meals a day were a challenge. Now, she prioritizes her children’s education and nutrition. Previously, her kids would wear hand-me-downs from their aunts, but now she’s able to buy new things occasionally, especially school clothes, marking a significant improvement in their lives.
Nilo, Rebecca’s husband, having obtained an NC II training certificate in driving, previously worked as a multicab driver before advancing to his current role as an equipment operator in a mining corporation (PGMC-Claver, Surigao City). With 18 years of experience as a mechanic, he also supplements their income by taking on repair jobs on an on-call basis. Meanwhile, Rebecca is a job order employee at the City Health Office and runs a sideline business selling products from Avon, MSE, and Personal Collection.
Rebecca’s achievements include completing her education, raising high-achieving children, and holding a TESDA NC IV certification in Domestic Work, built on her experience working abroad. The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program has been instrumental in helping their family transcend poverty and achieve improved well-being. While they may not be wealthy, they can now adequately support and nurture their family. Rebecca and her husband’s skills training has been a game-changer for their family, enabling them to leverage their expertise in finding meaningful employment.
In closing, Rebecca encourages others to stay hopeful despite challenges, emphasizing that perseverance is key to achieving success. While acknowledging the support from 4Ps, she stresses the importance of taking initiative and not relying solely on programs. As a beneficiary, she also highlights the value of attending Family Development Sessions to gain knowledge and insights, and being active in community activities to develop valuable skills, build relationships, and access support, ultimately contributing to personal growth and the family’s well-being. Their family aims to inspire others through their honest and hardworking lifestyle. As a mother, she prioritizes her family’s well-being, especially supporting their children’s education. Their academic achievements reflect the values and upbringing they have instilled in their children. Through perseverance and resilience, Rebecca is confident that she and her family will successfully cross over towards a better future.
