Butuan City- In line with the “Elderly Filipino Week” celebration this year, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Caraga is conducting a training for the senior citizens to equip them about disaster preparedness.
The three-day activity is scheduled on October 6-8, 2015 at Prince Hotel here and is participated by all City/Municipal Federation of Senior Citizens Officers and selected LGU focal persons.
Wilma Geralla, social welfare officer, shares that the training aims to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitude of the senior citizens leaders and the LGU Focal persons for them to become effective and efficient technology provider to the Older persons and other vulnerable sectors in the community.
“We know that the Senior Citizens sector were identified as the most vulnerable sectors in our society especially during the occurrence of disaster, thus, they need support from significant persons from the society,” said Geralla.
“With the new normal, we have to prepare the less-privileged sectors to survive and cope with the most critical and emergency situations,” she adds.
The DSWD as the lead agency in social protection missions to develop, implement, and coordinate social protection and poverty-reduction solutions for and with the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged sectors. ###(Social Marketing Unit/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
