CARAGA- As the chairperson of Regional Inter-Agency Committee on the Filipino Family (RIAC-FF), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Caraga leads this week’s celebration of the 24th National Family Week that will run from September 24 to 30.
Highlighting the contribution of a resilient Filipino family in achieving a better future, this year’s celebration bears the theme, “Matatag na Pamilya, Maunlad na Bukas”.
As part of the weeklong celebration, DSWD in partnership with the other member-agencies of the RIAC-FF, will hold a Parents’ Congress on September 28,2016 to be participated by a number of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program partner-beneficiaries in Butuan City.
During the activity, the invited resource persons will discuss topics on challenges and issues that affect families. Through the activity, the RIAC-FF aims to raise public awareness on the importance of advocating for strong Filipino families.
Also part of the congress is the awarding of the annual Regional Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya.
Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli expressed that this year’s Family Week celebration highlights the importance of working towards building a strong family so that child abuses can be prevented, the elderly will be cared for, and the women will not be violated.
“DSWD is strengthening the different social protection programs which would address the needs of the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged sectors of society.Through our programs and services and genuine care, we want to help the needy families be eventually able to help themselves.” said Brigoli.
The Family Week celebration is an annual activity in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No.60 signed on September 28, 1992 and Executive Order No. 241 dated June 9,1995. ###(Social Marketing Unit/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
