BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga spearheaded the Family Week Celebration.  As chair of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee for the Filipino Family (RIACFF), DSWD led the conduct of several activities in the observance of the Family Week together with other line agencies in the region.

With the theme “Ensuring work-Family Balance,” the activities were all geared toward strengthening family unity and relationship by promoting Filipino family values. The regional weeklong celebration was held on September 21-27, 2012.

The highlights of the celebration included hanging of streamer in every government office, motorcade, program, lighting of sky lanterns, contest and games depicting family cohesiveness, simultaneous conduct of for a on strengthening family relations through Family Development Sessions (FDS), regional parent education congress (RPEC) which included topics on spiritual enrichment, enhancing relationship with spouse and children, natural family planning, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention and orientation on positive discipline, and the search for Talentadong Pamilya.

The Family Week is celebrated every September by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 60 signed on September 18, 1992. It seeks to strengthen family unity and relationships through meaningful celebration and promotion of Filipino values. ### (Social Marketing Unit)
