BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) leads the celebration of Family Week starting today, September 17 until September 23, 2010. The weeklong celebration carries the theme “MIGRANTENG PAMILYANG PILIPINO MATATAG SAAN MAN SA MUNDO.”

The theme, according to Dir. Mercedita P. Jabagat of the Caraga regional social welfare office, is a timely shift in the focus of the celebration to highlight both the plight and contribution of the migrant Filipinos and their families.

To commemorate this special celebration for the family, the following activities are slated by the Regional Inter-Agency Committee for the Filipino Families (RIACFF): 1) Press Conference, September 17 2) Thanksgiving Mass/Motorcade/program, September 21 3) Regional Parent Education Congress, September 22  4) Symposium on Drug Abuse, September 22.

Pursuant to Proclamation No. 60 dated September 28, 1992, the DSWD is mandated to spearhead the observance of the Family Week Celebration on the last week of September and every year thereafter. # # # (Social Marketing Unit)
