johnnyBUTUAN CITY – The municipal local government units in Caraga region recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to proceed their second year engagement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) flagship anti-poverty program Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS).

The municipalities of Veruela in Agusan del Sur and Cagwait in Surigao del Sur showed this intention during the Project Orientation and Launching to jumpstart the implementation of KALAHI-CIDSS Cycle 2 last June 14 and 15, respectively.

Maayo kini nga programa sa atong gobyerno kay nihaum kini sa akong personal nga panlantaw para sa among munisipyo. Mao kanang tumong namo sa kalinaw ug kauswagan ug madugangan pa kini karon sa ikaduha nga tuig (This is a good program of the government for it fits my personal perspective in building peace and development in the municipality. This shall be magnified with the second year of KALAHI-CIDSS), stated Veruela Mayor Salimar T. Mondejar.

The DSWD will allocate a total of Php13,950,000.00 for these municipalities that will form part the KALAHI-CIDSS grant or the 70% cash assistance while the 30% will be provided by the MLGUs for their in-kind and local cash counterpart as stipulated in the MOA.

Pag-abot sa hisgutang paglambo, dili gayud kita magpabilin. Ato gayud pahimuslan ang mga proyekto sa atong gobyerno ug dili kami mopakyas sa among responsibilidad sa paghatag ug cash counterpart (We should not be left behind in terms of development. We should take advantage of the programs of the national government and rest assured, the provincial LGU shall take part in its responsibility of providing cash counterpart), assured Johnny T. Pimentel, governor of Surigao del Sur.

Dubbed as “We do it together,” the second year implementation will be anchored in the KALAHI operational framework of “acceptance” wherein both the LGUs and the Area Coordinating Team (ACT) of DSWD shall give 50-50 physical work and technical assistance to the municipality.

The KALAHI-CIDSS is the national government’s effort to fight poverty in the country through its principles of participatory, transparency, and accountability. ### (Social Marketing Unit)
