“Not all is given the chance to make difference.”

This was the first quote I had on my mind during the Pantawid Buhay: Massive Blood Donation launching at the City Gymnasium, Tandag City on October 4, 2013.

The crowd was filled with thousands of Pantawid Beneficiaries and with some guests such as the Committee Chairman on Womens and Family SP Member Hon. Imelda Falcon, Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross Surigao del Sur Chapter Annie O. Ty, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer May Navidad G. Salinas, and the Committee Chair of the Blood Program Rosalinda C. Pimentel.

This breakthrough has been made possible with the initiation and effort of the Provincial Operations Staff headed by the Provincial Link Meiraflor D. Cabigon in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross – Surigao del Sur Chapter and Tandag City Local Government Unit.

“Intensify coordination and collaboration with the line agencies in providing the social services to our program recipients. To strengthen the commitment of Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries in their social responsibility (through blood donation activity). And to support the program’s advocacy on Health- related efforts.” – Meiraflor D. Cabigon, Provincial Link.

Indeed, this activity is not just a program but it has objectives that will contribute to saving more lives. It polishes more the real value and essence of humanitarian that magnifies life on top among other things. “You will just know the importance of blood when you are already needed it.” – Rosalinda C. Pimentel, Committee Chair of the Blood Program.

It never been that fast in making decision or convince someone to donate blood, because it takes the will of the people to make them do so. The bottom line however, these people are well informed about the positive effects of donating blood, like giving blood provides an essential lifeline to those in need and there health benefits for the donor too. It also reduces the risk of heart attacks and even cancer. These facts are well enough and the most desirable move to take in first. The further these people are informed, the more it sharpens their will to take part on this very activity.

Aside from the messages delivered by the people behind this successful activity, there were also presentations that entertained the crowd, and these are the chosen Pantawid Pamilya Beneficiaries from Barangays Mabua and Rosario and the Patalinghug Family who bagged the 2nd Place during the Regional “Tagisan ng Galing” on September 30, 2013 in Butuan City.

Checking of blood pressure to those who aren’t ready to donate   blood   was   rendered,   spearheaded   by   the  registered nurses in the Department   of Health.

A total of 25 blood bags were collected during the launching of the said activity. ### (Social Marketing Unit/ Eariel Tolentino, PMEO)
