Dapa, Surigao del Norte – DSWD FO Caraga Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli, led the Check Turn – Over of the newly funded SEA – K Associations in Dapa Surigao Island, Surigao del Norte on March 1, 2014. Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Head, Roy Serdeña assisted the distribution.

The total Capital Seed Fund amounted to eight million eight hundred fifty thousand pesos (Php 8,850,000.00). The said amount was distributed to 55 SKAs with 885 beneficiaries (12 SKAs with 190 beneficiaries are from Dapa; 8 SKAs with 155 beneficiaries are from del Carmen; 5 SKAs with 90 beneficiaries are from Gen. Luna; 6 SKAs with 105 beneficiaries are from Pilar; and 24 SKAs with 345 beneficiaries are from Socorro).

The maximum amount an individual can avail is ten thousand pesos (Php 10,000.00).

The types of microenterprise of Newly Funded SKAs are: Trading with 653 beneficiaries who are into retailing and whole selling of fish, rice, copra, gasoline, TRW, nipa, scrap and sari – sari store; Livestock raising with 142 beneficiaries who are into hog raising and poultry; Land – based agriculture with 33 beneficiaries who are into corn, rice, and coconut production; Marine – based with 29 beneficiaries who are into fish cage, fish shelter and fishing; Service with 18 beneficiaries who are into money lending, carenderia/ eatery, loading station, barber shop, vulcanizing, and welding shop; and Manufacturing with 10 beneficiaries who are into banig making, nipa weaving, food processing and bakery.

Salamat gayud DSWD!” “It is an overwhelming joy that we are given financial assistance through the SEA – K of SLP in DSWD for us to build a business that can augment our livelihood and living. Thank you very much DSWD!” exclaimed by one of the beneficiaries as her response to the message of RD Brigoli.

“ We seek to improve the socio – economic status of Caraga. We in DSWD FO Caraga through the SEA- K will continue to serve and provide you, our beneficiaries, our partners with opportunities to enhance the entrepreneurial and labor skills that you already have,” RD Brigoli said.

“We hope that the financial aid that we extended will be doubled if not tripled in days to come. It is now in your hands we entrust. It is up to you now, how you will manage your capital seed fund. We aimed to uplift you from survival to self – sufficiency level.” RD Brigoli added.

The Self – employment Assistance para sa Kaunlaran  or SEA –K   is a non – collateral, no interest capital assistance scheme that inculcates Social Responsibility to the participants to return within a year, on instalment basis.###(smu marketing/TDB)
