Butuan City, March 14, 2014 – The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) oriented the seventy –two (72) participants composed of Butuan City LGU, National Government Agencies (NGAs), and Stakeholders at Roldan’s Fast food in this city.
The activity aims to get the commitment and to ink Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in implementing the livelihood programs to the Pantawid beneficiaries.
SLP Special Projects Focal Person, Marvin F. Tubo, discussed the Concepts and Operational Procedures, Institutional Arrangements and Partnerships and MOA. SLP is a community-based capacity building program aimed at improving the participants’ socio-economic status. It supports micro-enterprises to become organizationally and economically viable and it also links participants to employment opportunities.
Furthermore, SLP Provincial Coordinator Nora P. Pantillo, presented the principles, objectives, features and services of the program Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K). It is a capability building and livelihood assistance program of the Philippine Government that implemented by DSWD in coordination with the LGU. It involves a non-collateral, non-interest bearing capital loans directed towards the poor and disadvantaged group.
Rep. Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun of 1st District – Butuan City and Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte, extended his support by giving an inspirational message to the participants. “The value of this program means two (2) things: SLP provides productive ventures for our untapped human resource, giving Pantawid beneficiaries the opportunity to improve themselves and their community. It also creates euphoria of self-reliance and economic independence, a consciousness that every Filipino, every Butuanon is an asset and can actively contribute toward our shared National development,” he said.
City Councilors Derek Plaza and Virgilio Neri Jr. also attended the activity.
