The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga conducted on Friday, April 25, 2014 the Forum on Women with Disability held at LG Mega Center, Butuan City.

Ms. Angelita Amista, DSWD Institutional Development Division (IDD) Chief in her opening statement expressed the importance of women especially those with disabilities. Ms. Amista also said that women should also start realizing that their roles go beyond housekeeping and childbearing. She also emphasized that even a person has a disability, the person can still do something to contribute for development

Moreover, Ms. Amista also said that the activity aims to orient the sector about the rights and privileges of the women with disability as stipulated in the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities or RA 7277 and RA 9442.

Ms. Wilma Geralla also discussed the types of disabilities and the different rights of PWDs stipulated in R.A 7277 and R.A 9442.

She also encouraged the participants to participate to have women with disability organizations.

The Forum was a venue for the participants to thresh out emerging issues, gaps and challenges of women with disabilities facilitated by Ms. Wilma Geralla Focal Person for Senior Citizen and Person With Disabilities (PWDs) of DSWD Field Office Caragain their respective municipalities

The said activity was also in line in the celebration of the Year of Laity. It was attended by twenty-five (25) participants representing different the different municipalities and provinces in the region. ### (Social Marketing Unit)
