Surigao del Sur– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga has high regard on the contribution of the elderly to the society. The Department through its Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli visited Mr. Vidal Maquiling-Bagnol, Sr., a 100 – year old lolo and a resident of Barangay Burgos, Cortes, Surigao del Sur yesterday.

The centenarian lolo was born on April 28, 1914 at Cortes, Tandag, Surigao del Sur. He was appointed as vice – mayor  in 1953 – 1962 and then later appointed as mayor from 1962 – 1963 in the said locality.

During the visit of the director together with the Municipal Mayor Atty. William M. Angos, CPA and Gov. Johnny T. Pimentel, RD Brigoli hand-in the cash gift to lolo Vidal as an incentive for reaching a hundred – year old.

Brigoli articulated her joy talking to lolo Vidal.

“Nagagalak po ang aming mga puso at personal po namin kayong naka- usap. Pinagpapatuloy po ng ating ahensya, ang DSWD, kasama ang lokal na pamahalaan ang pagbibigay halaga at pagbati sa mga taong may isang daan-taong gulang,” she expressed.

The Director underscored the contribution of the centenarian who truly deserves to be honored and respected.

Accordingly, reaching their age is an achievement worthy of emulation. They are models for the future aging. (###DSWDFOCaraga###).
