Butuan City– Some 78 workers under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are set to undergo training on SLP 2.0 to be held in Amontay Beach Resort, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte on February 9-19, 2015.

The said 10-day training is spearheaded by the national program management of SLP, and is assisted by the DSWD-Caraga regional training and management teams as the host region.

SLP-Caraga coordinator Roy R. Serdeña said that the said training is conducted to capacitate the technical persons of the SLP for the rollout trainings to follow after the training.

A welcome dinner in the first day was prepared by the regional office to cordially welcome the contingents who are from the different regions of the country.

In her message, Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli expressed her excitement on the presence of the participants.

“It’s not always that we host this kind of event. The Field Office Caraga is privileged to share its best practices in the implementation of the SLP in the region.” said Brigoli.

Included in the activity is the field visit on February 10, 2015 at the municipalities of Esperanza, Gigaquit, Sibagat, and Las Nieves to showcase to the participants the best practices of the local government units in the implementation of SLP.

SLP 2.0 version is a new version of the intervention of the Program which incorporated the best practices and strategies documented from among the regions including Caraga particularly on its consolidation, multi-intervention, and over-kill approach in implementing several modalities and wise utilization of funds.

These enhancements are geared towards ensuring that the families receive the best and meaningful services the Department can provide to its clientele to reach the self-sufficiency level by 2016.

SLP is one of the poverty-alleviation programs of DSWD which aims to improve the socio-economic capacity of the poor to enhance access to basic social services and improve their standard of living. ###(Social Marketing Unit)
