Butuan City- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), together with the Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare for Children (RJJWC) secretariat, leads this week’s JJW Consciousness celebration.

Every 4th week of October, the country is observing the said celebration per Proclamation No. 489 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino. This is in connection with the annual celebration of National Children’s Month which will be celebrated in November for this year.

The JJWC celebration this year highlights the continued efforts of government agencies, non-government agencies and other partners and stakeholders to protect the rights of the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and Children at Risk (CAR) in ensuring a bright future for them.

This first kick off activity will provide opportunities for these children to hone their talents and skills, share it to the public and to raise the awareness of the Filipino people on the currents issues, status and conditions of these children.

All efforts to promote the welfare of children and to protect their basic rights are embedded on the National and International Laws for Children and Youth such as the UNCRC (United Nations Convention for the Rights of Children), RA 4881 ( An Act creating a Council for the Protection of Children in every City, Municipality of the Philippines) RA 7610 (An Act providing for stronger Deterrence and Special Protection Against Child Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination), and RA 9344 (Juvenile Justice Welfare Act of 2006). ###(Social Marketing Unit/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
