DSWD-Caraga continues campaign on legal adoption, leads 2018 Adoption Consciousness Celebration

BUTUAN CITY- Underscoring the campaign on legal adoption, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Caraga leads the celebration of the 2018 Adoption Consciousness Month.

Observed every February, this year’s celebration bears the theme, “Pagmamahal Palaganapin, Legal na Pag-aampon Ating Gawin (Spread Unconditional Love Through Legal Adoption).”

The Field Office prepared series of activities with the objective of educating the general public on the legal process for adoption and other alternative family care.

The lined-up activities include the conduct of Adoption and Foster Care Congress which will be attended by selected adoptive parents, foster parents, and children, and Regional Adoption Forum which will serve as venue to intensify the Alternative Parental Care.

There will also be a Song Writing Competition that will highlight and advocate legal adoption. The first place will receive Php25,000, People’s Choice award will receive Php5,000, and non-winning entries will receive Php5,000.

For DSWD’s internal staff, there will be Short Film Contest dubbed as DECA 3x. The short film must promote legal adoption, explain that Simulation of Birth Record is illegal, and encourage involvement of community to report wrong practices in adoption. Prizes await the winners and the deadline of submission is on or before February 26, 2018.

Staff of the Field Office also supported the Social Media campaign through using a profile photo reflecting the theme for the celebration and posting activities using the hashtag #LegalAdoption and #AdoptionIsLove.

Media guesting are also being done to advocate legal adoption to the listening public.

ARRS staff attend queries from the clients at the Adoption Information Help Desk at Robinson Place, Butuan City.

Recently, the agency through the Adoption Resource and Referral Section (ARRS) installed a two-day information help desk on February 17-18, 2018 at Robinsons Place, Butuan City. Queries about adoption and foster care processes were answered and clients were provided with Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.

Under the Presidential Proclamation No. 72 issued on February 3, 1999, the department and other government agencies will lead the observance of Adoption Consciousness Celebration to emphasize the process of legal adoption. ###(ABEGAIL R. ALVAREZ/Social Marketing Unit/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
