SURIGAO DEL NORTE – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga spearheaded the successful conduct of the 1st Quarter Meeting for the Social Welfare and Development Learning Network (SWD L-NET) at Siargao Island last April 23-26, 2018. The said event became a venue for the members to share their good practices on SWD and social welfare services.

During the activity, Balay-Silonganan and Butuan Habitat for Humanity were also given the chance to orient the group of the services they offer.

The Network, composed of different LGUs (represented by the Municipal/City Social Welfare and Development Officers, Academes, Civil Society Organizations, and Regional Line Agencies, and is being chaired by DSWD Caraga Regional Director Mita Chuchi G. Lim. It aims to provide quality and efficient social welfare services to different groups and individuals all over Caraga.

The meeting was hosted by SWD L-NET members, the Local Government Units (LGU) of Pilar, Dapa, and Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte, through coordination with the SWD L-NET Secretariat from the DSWD Field Office.

Also part of the 1st Quarter Meeting was revisiting the previously conducted activities especially those conducted in 2017. The group was able to identify strengths and weaknesses from previous engagements, which became basis for planning activities for 2018.

Some of the planned activities for 2018 is another round of the successful Inter-School Quiz Bowl Competition (which was piloted in 2017) and regular capacity building activities to strengthen advocacies and continuing activities of the Network.

Another highlight of the activity was a crash-course on mobile photography and effective panel/client interviewing, which is important in the individual functions of the members.
