The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga joined the Kick-off ceremony for the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2019, with the theme “Kahandaan sa Sakuna’t Peligrio para sa Tunay na Pagbabago”. The kick-off was held at Barangay Sto. Nino, Magallanes, Agusan del Norte, on July 02, 2019.
The event aims to promote the importance of disaster resilience especially on the four thematic areas of disaster, namely, disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
For this year’s observance, the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) prepared series of activities for the Kick-off ceremony starting with the Thanksgiving mass and Motorcade.
Other activities for the launch include: The Coastal Cleanup of all the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) members and the Tree Planting Activity which was led by the Local Government Unit. The ceremony was participated by over 600 people from the 70 partner agencies and disaster management institutions around Caraga region.
The celebration will be a month-long, with local activities to be conducted (cities and municipalities around the region) in the following days. These activities will strengthen the capacity of the different agencies, including the LGUs in Disaster Management and Response.
DSWD is the Vice-Chair for Disaster Response and also the lead agency of the Food and Non-Food Cluster, Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster, and Internally Displaced Persons Protection Cluster under the Humanitarian Response cluster. ###(ALYCKSSA MAYE J.
