Barobo, Surigao del Sur – Thirty members of the Dapdap Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Association in Barobo, Surigao del Sur received a swine production and hog-fattening project from the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the Sustainable Livelihood Program, recently.

With a total amount of Php 450,000, the livelihood project includes a weighing scale, hogs, feeds, and a one-unit pigpen.

Barobo Mayor Joey Pama, who personally graced the event, assured the members that the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Barobo will always be prepared to help the association to assist them in setting up their livelihood project.

“Ayaw kamo kaluya kung aduna may problema nga muabot sa inyong asosasyon kay andam kami sa LGU nga mutabang aron mapalambo pa ang livelihood project (Don’t be disheartened if you encounter problems within your association. The LGU is ready to help you sustain your livelihood project),” Pama committed.

Pama also added that the LGU, particularly the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), will ensure that the association gets enough technical assistance and guidance from the LGU.

During the turnover ceremony, Dapdap SLPA President Windilina Maitim also shared that the project is a relief for them, especially during the pandemic. Through the project, the association hopes that it can help them sustain their family’s needs.

“Grabe ang kalisod nga nasinati namo karon tungod niining pandemya. Kami naapektuhan sa among panginabuhi apan nagpasalamat kami nga adunay proyekto nga gihatag ang gobyerno pinaagi sa DSWD-SLP. Kami gahinaot nga makahatag kini og dugang source sa income sa among tagsa-tagsa kapamilya (We struggled a lot because of the pandemic. Our livelihoods have been affected that is why we are thankful for the project given to us by the government through the DSWD-SLP. We are hoping that this will give us an additional source of income to support our families),” Maitim expressed.

After the project has been turned over to the association, the DSWD-SLP and the LGU Barobo will continually conduct project monitoring to ensure that the association’s progress.

Aside from Mayor Joey Pama, Municipal Vice Mayor Allan Bernal, MSWDO Marilou Godito, and SLP Provincial Coordinator for Surigao del Sur Cluster II Alvin Bajao also witnessed the activity. They were joined by the officials from the Barangay Local Government Unit of Dapdap.

The Sustainable Livelihood Program is a livelihood intervention program of the DSWD that aims to provide the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged communities with socio-economic opportunities to augment their income and living conditions.

Aside from providing these communities with thriving opportunities, the program also aims to empower the participants through capacity-building activities.
