The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga has conducted its Groundbreaking Ceremony for its Regional Warehouse and Disaster Response Operation Center (RWDROC) at Tiniwisan, Butuan City on October 29, 2021.

The event was graced by the presence of the Assistant Secretary, Asec. Rodolfo M. Encabo together with the dignitaries and representatives from different partner agencies: Former Mayor Nita Ratcho on behalf of Cong. Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba, City Councilor Hon. Ferdinand Nalcot, who represented the City Mayor Hon. Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada, Amado M. Posas on behalf of Regional Director Liza R. Maso of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga, and Engr. Cristina Lus R. Cacayan on behalf of Regional Director Pol M. Delos Santos of the DPWH.

The dignitaries, in apparent joy, leading the groundbreaking rites in the site of the soon to rise RWDRO Center.

Through the efforts of Cong. Maria Angelica Rosedell A. Matba and the DPWH Caraga, the Construction of the DSWD Regional Warehouse and Disaster Response Operation Center with a total cost of Php 34,740,000.00, is now a go for its construction. The infrastructure, which is projected to be completed within 11 months, will have a warehouse which will be able to  accommodate 1,800 Kitchen Kits, 1,600 Family Kits, 1,440 Hygiene Kits, 2,000 Sleeping Kits, and 16,000 Family Food Packs – a total to 22,840 Food and Non-food Items for safe keeping.

The soon to rise 3-storey regional warehouse aims to serve partner-LGUs that frequently experience various disasters including the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, it is designed to be a learning hub for LGUs to increase their capabilities in logistics management and humanitarian assistance management.

In his message, Asec Encabo underscored the gratefulness that the department has for the support of the partner agencies that made the project possible. “This support fuels us to execute the extra miles without hesitation to deliver the excellence of service we have been hoping for the Filipino communities,” Encabo added.

DSWD will continue to work with partners to ensure the success of the endeavor, and with the commitment of the Field Office, through the leadership of OIC-Regional Director Ramel F. Jamen, the agency will try to ensure that the hub will be able to serve its purpose, especially in empowering the LGUs in handling disaster operations.
