In preparation for the construction of the Mindanao Disaster Resource Center (MDRC) here in Caraga Region, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga facilitated the 6-day Logistics Capacity Assessment (LCA) conducted by the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NLRMB) with the Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) of the DSWD Central Office, at the DSWD Caraga warehouses and Caraga ports on April 18-23, 2022.

LCA team visited the Field Office’ satellite office in Agusan Del Sur.

With the emergency and disaster experiences of the Field Office, one of the prioritized considerations was to fortify its response operations by improving its storage of food packs and warehousing of food and non-food commodities. This should guarantee quality stockpiles of family food packs and other humanitarian assistance ready for timely distribution as the need arises.

Significantly, the logistic capacity assessment provides an avenue to up-scale its logistical management enhancement and its implementation capacity. Mechanism for assessment in place, capacity enhancement tool effectiveness, and best practice were also gauged during the activity.

Even with the identified gaps during the assessment, the Central Office (CO) was impressed with the Field Office’s preparedness and its course of action in times of disaster.

With the Department’s partner agency.

Under RA 10121, the Department has been placed by the law as the lead agency in the response pillar which ensures well-coordinated response in times of disaster, lead the clusters in the provision of assistance and augmentation and, participates in other clustered activities of disasters.
