In the pursuit to capacitate its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), LGU Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur requested for technical assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga to conduct camp management and coordination, as anchored by RA 10121 for their staff through a 3-day Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) training on June 8-10, 2022.

Participants (MSWDO, MDRRMO, barangay officials, and LGU Hinatuan personnel) actively join in on one of the training’s activities.

CCCM is one of the disaster response clusters led by DSWD that track and monitor the displacement situation in all disaster-affected sites, identify vulnerable groups, coordinate service provision in camps, and advocate durable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Rene Solon, Donations Unit Head, provides input during the training.

The activity is headed by the Field Office’s Disaster Response Management Division’s (DRMD) pool of trainers composed of Alyckssa Castaños, Rene Solon, Raffy Vigil, and Julieto Ompad. The team emphasized the importance of preparatory activities especially the roles and responsibilities of the members of the MDRRMO. This includes the implementation of camp management including its operational components from establishing the camp, until its closure, highlighting the demobilization process.

Julieto Ompad, DROMIC Focal Person, discusses the technicalities of managing information in camps.

Participants of the training are the staff from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), MDRRMO, Barangay Officials, and personnel of LGU Hinatuan.
