Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga is conducting a 5-day Women and Child-Friendly Space Training, on June 20-24, 2022 at VCDU Prince Hotel Convention, Villa Kananga, Butuan City.

Focused and Ready to Learn: The participants are all ears as the training commenced.

The activity is being conducted with the aim to address the practical and strategic gender needs of women in times of humanitarian crisis. Part of the main objectives of the training is to discuss the significance of having a safe and accessible space for internally displaced women and children and to facilitate them on the access to services that responds to their welfare and needs.

 

“It is important to note the child protection and be proactive on safeguarding children from any forms of abuses or neglect during emergencies,” Sarah Rose Salingay, Social Worker Officer II, who is on of the resource persons shared.

Additionally, in order to ensure awareness on issues related to well-being, women’s rights, and sexual and reproductive health, perspectives and approaches in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is discussed, specifically on the 3rd day of the training with Raffy C. Vigil, Social Worker Officer IV, as the resource speaker.

 

Participants are also gaining insights in establishing women and child friendly spaces in evacuation camps to further their capacity in providing technical assistance to the Local Government Units regarding the matter.

The participants actively participated in the activities during the sessions.
