The Department of Social Welfare and Development, Provincial Local Government Unit of Surigao del Norte, Local Government Unit of Surigao City, and some beneficiaries pose for a photo during the turnover of check amounting to PHP 8M allocated as livelihood assistance for families affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

In its commitment to continuously help families affected by the wrath of Typhoon Odette, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga distributed the Livelihood Settlement Grant to 600 beneficiaries in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte and San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands on July 14, 2022.

Through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), each beneficiary received livelihood assistance amounting to PHP 20,000. This grant will serve as the beneficiary’s seed capital fund to establish their proposed livelihoods or to restore their existing livelihoods that have been severely damaged by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

In the selection of the beneficiaries of this program, the Local Government Units of Surigao City and San Jose led the identification of the families with livelihoods that have been severely affected by the typhoon and endorsed the list of beneficiaries to the SLP Regional Program Management Office (SLP-RPMO). Following the submission of potential beneficiaries, the SLP-RPMO validated these families to be certain that they have met the eligibility requirements.

Thirty days after the release of grants, the beneficiaries are to submit proof of the purchases they made for the establishment of their livelihoods to ensure that the grant has been properly utilized.
