EMERGENCY SHELTER ASSISTANCE: 2,383 Odette-affected families with totally damaged houses in the municipality of Dinagat, Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI), received their Php10,000 worth of assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, November 24-25, 2022.

On behalf of Regional Director Mari-Flor A. Dollaga who is attending an equally important event, Assistant Regional Director for Administration Atty. Faizal A. Padate, welcomed the ESA beneficiaries with a warm message, expressing the Agency’s efforts in serving the people together with its partners.

Eufemia P. Roquite, 87 years old from Barangay Cabayawan of Dinagat, could not contain her emotions when she gave her response when asked about the assistance she got from the ESA.

“Sangko sa langit ako kalipay na nahiapil an ako ngayan. Ay makahilak man ako. Salamat karajaw (My happiness reached the high heavens when I was included in the list. I am emotional now. Thank you so much),” she said.

 

Nanay Eufemia is among the beneficiaries of the said municipality whose house has been totally damaged during the devastation of Typhoon Odette, last December 2021.

ESA payout for the remaining municipalities of PDI will continue in the coming weeks.

Also, it is important to note that for those beneficiaries who have received, or who will be receiving housing assistance from the National Housing Authority, will only receive half of the allotted amount of ESA, which is Php5,000.

 

As vice-chair for the disaster response group, the Department will continue to support and provide assistance to the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged inviduals, including disaster-affected families and individuals like Nanay Eufemia.
