Fire razed the houses of 33 families.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through its Disaster Response Management Division, provided augmentation support to the thirty-three (33) fire-affected families in Purok Bakhaw, Barangay Magsaysay, Placer town in Surigao del Norte, on October 18, 2023.

DSWD Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Operations Jean Paul S. Parajes led the distribution of financial aid to the victims who are temporarily housed inside the barangay’s gymnasium.

Affected families were temporarily housed in the Barangay Magsaysay’s gymnasium using the Agency’s modular tent.

Items received by the affected families were; 165 family food packs (FFPs) equivalent to 5 boxes of FFPs each, 33 hygiene kits, 33 family kits, 33 kitchen kits, 33 sleeping kits, 33 blankets, and 33 collapsible water containers.

Also, families whose houses were totally-damaged will receive Php10,000, while those whose houses are partially-damaged will receive Php5,000.

The cash aid is under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department; while the distribution of food packs, sleeping kits, kitchen kits, and hygiene kits is under the Agency’s disaster response division.

Even after the Field Office’s augmented support, it still keeps coordinating with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) Placer, to ensure the needs of the affected families are met.
