The key’s symbolic turnover represented the ownership transfer of the building from DPWH Caraga to DSWD Field Office Caraga.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga officially assumed ownership of the Regional Warehouse and Disaster Response Operation Center from the Department of Public Works and Highways through a turnover ceremony held in Barangay Tiniwisan, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, May 14, 2024.

The ceremony, which took place at the warehouse premises, is an essential step for Field Office Caraga to get full authority in executing plans for building improvements, insurance, and other amenities suited for warehouse operations.

“Marami pang kailangang gawin, ngunit masayang masaya na kami sa progress ngayong araw na ito. Ika nga, malayo pa pero malayo na. As we officially take ownership through today’s turnover from DPWH, rest assured that we are committed to enhancing and fully operationalizing this building,” DSWD Assistant Regional Director for Administration Tristan Telen said in his opening message.

 

Once operational, the said Regional Warehouse and Disaster Response Operation Center will serve as a central hub for disaster operations and a storage facility for food and non-food items essential for families affected by disasters.

The event was graced by Rev. Fr. Herman Licayan, from the Holy Cross Parish (who ushered the blessing of the warehouse), Sanguniang Panlalawigan Member Larry Bautista (Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte), Assistant Division Chief of the Planning and Design Lolita Acalayen (DPWH Caraga), OIC-Regional Manager Rejorie Onde (National Food Authority), and Lovelynn Mae Plaza (CSWD Butuan).

Meanwhile, the activity was also maximized for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Volunteer Mobilization Program (with the Rotary Club of Central San Francisco (Agusan del Sur), Rotary Club of San Francisco (Agusan del Sur), Delta Fraternity and Sorority 1961 of San Francisco, ADS) and Memorandum of Agreement with the National Food Authority for Relief Goods Prepositioning.
