Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Focal Persons and Child Development Workers (CWD) from the Local Government Units have further honed their knowledge and skills in providing support to parents after completing their Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting and Teaching course conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga.

The said participants will now apply the strategies they have learned from the said training, and will now provide guidance to parents in their roles as primary caregivers and as their children’s first teachers.

The Philippine Government recognizes the significance of early childhood care and development hence, several laws were enacted to support ECCD. One of which is Republic Act No. 10410 also known as Early Years Act of 2013, which aims to promote the rights of children to survival, development, and special protection.

The years from conception, birth, to eight years of age are critical to the complete and healthy cognitive, emotional and physical growth of children. It is therefore during these years that secured attachment to parents/caregivers is ensured. Thus, DSWD has come up with the said training to provide guidance to ECCD Focal Persons on the different approaches in ensuring proper, healthy disciplining of children by their parents.
The said community-based training, which was conducted at the Watergate Hotel, Butuan City, on October 29-31, 2024, is timely as the nation celebrates Children’s Month this November. DSWD Field Office Caraga will continue to ensure that the welfare of Children will be promoted by empowering key stakeholders who are working together to ensure that Caraga Region will be a safe community for all children.
