The LAWA at BINHI project (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished), spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) , has been recognized as a global best practice in climate resilience and community empowerment.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Reena Ghelani spotlighted the initiative in a LinkedIn post, commending it as “one of the best practices” she has encountered.

“As climate change continues to affect communities worldwide, the need for innovative and sustainable solutions has never been greater. The kind of multi-stakeholder, community-driven approaches demonstrated by the LAWA project will be essential as we tackle increasingly complex climate challenges,” wrote Ghelani.

Designed to combat hunger, alleviate poverty, and reduce economic vulnerability, Project LAWA at BINHI addresses food insecurity and water scarcity—issues exacerbated by climate change and disasters.

The DSWD, in collaboration with its partners, reaffirmed its commitment to empowering communities and fostering resilience through initiatives like LAWA at BINHI and other related programs.
