The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Home for Girls (HFG), successfully held its annual Sportsfest this May 2025 with the theme “Empowering Girls Through Sports and Unity.”
The event aimed to promote physical well-being, teamwork, and self-confidence among the young residents through various sports activities and friendly competitions.
More than just a showcase of athletic skills, the Sportsfest became a platform for the girls to build meaningful friendships, strengthen their sense of community, and develop essential life skills. It also provided a safe and nurturing environment where empowerment, unity, and joy were celebrated.
“This Sportsfest is more than just about games but about giving our girls the opportunity to heal, grow, and believe in themselves,” said Ms. Marissa Garay, Center Head of the Home for Girls. “Every cheer, every effort, every shared laugh contributes to their journey of becoming strong and confident young women, just as we’ve always hoped for them.”
Both staff and residents joined in the spirit of fun, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, making the 2025 Sportsfest a meaningful and memorable celebration of hope, healing, and personal growth.
