NEW OPPORTUNITIES. On August 23, 2021, the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Local Government Unit of Dapa broke ground for the construction of the Dapa Livelihood Center in Dapa, Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte. The Dapa Livelihood Center will house four Sustainable Livelihood Program associations.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development, together with the Local Government Unit of Dapa, broke ground for the establishment of the Dapa Livelihood Center in Dapa, Surigao del Norte, on August 23, 2021.

The Dapa Livelihood Center is a 1-story infrastructure project subsidized by the DSWD Field Office Caraga’s Sustainable Livelihood Program which will house four SLP associations and allow the program participants to display their products and goods.

SLP associations that will be utilizing the livelihood project are as follows: Subangan Daylight Store SLPA, Ten Paint Center and Supplies SLPA, Dose Mini Mart SLPA, and Cabatuhan Rice Trading SLPA.

These associations have opted to venture into the following livelihood projects: ready-to-wear (RTW), meat and frozen products, general merchandise, and rice trading, respectively.

A total of PHP 1,982,702 was deposited to the savings accounts of these associations to establish livelihood projects of their choice. Out of the total fund mentioned, an amount of PHP 900,000 was allocated for the construction of the livelihood center.

Currently, the four SLP associations have already started their livelihood projects but will transfer to the center as soon as the construction of the building is completed.

With the help and support of LGU Dapa, the project is set to be completed on October 30, 2021. A signing of the memorandum of agreement between the DSWD-SLP and the LGU Dapa will also take place on September 8, 2021.

Federation President Celia Mantua expressed her gratitude to the DSWD-SLP and LGU Dapa and pledged that the SLPAs will give their full support to the realization of the livelihood center.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Municipal Mayor Elizabeth Matugas and SLP Technical Staff Reynard Roi Cabusao. They were joined by Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Nancybelle Trazares, Sangguniang Bayan Members, SLP associations members, and DSWD field staff.

During the groundbreaking activity, the local parish priest led a short blessing ceremony to kick off the event.
